Teak Coffee Table Made in Denmark

This coffee table has a timeless teak style; so emblematic of Scandinavian modernism. It has a central teak panel with banded border and carved incised outer lip. It has been part of my collection for many years, and is as it was when I acquired it living in the U.S. Sadly, space requires me to move on some of my pieces. On this table, there are signs of an old, professional repair to the top of one leg, and a filling on the top (almost imperceptible), a fill to the lip on one side, and a scuff to the base of one leg. All of these were done prior to me purchasing the table. Some of these I only became aware of when photographing for this sale. Its blemishes are represented in the accompanying photographs. This is not the “put your feet up type table!" A smaller version of this table is on sale on 1stDibs for over $3,000 not including shipping! This was a design from the 1960’s. In its Swedish made Rosewood version, Ohlsson called it the “Florida Table.” This teak version was made in Denmark, and can also be found in a square or trapezoidal side table. This table is signed “Imported Original Dux Made in Denmark.” Dimensions: 1530 (w) x 510 (d) x 410 (h) Folke Ohlsson was born in 1919 and raised in Sweden, and moved to the United States in 1953 where he established Dux Incorporated in California. He died in 2002. He played an outsized role in progressing the popularity of Scandinavian furniture in midcentury America. This elegant teak table has been part of my collection for 15 years and has had daily, respectful use, acknowledging that it is anywhere up to 60 years old.
